The Isalania was built in 1947 at the Scheepswerf de Hoop in Lobith, still a well-known name in inland shipping. The client was Count Bentinck who lived at Middachten Castle just north of Rheden on the IJssel. According to the stories, the count liked to sail alone. However, there was already a galley and accommodation for two servants in the foreship, in case family or guests were sailing. After the count's death, Mr L Hamming from Maastricht bought the ship from his inheritance. The Hamming family has been sailing with the ship for 35 years, of which about thirty years in competitions such as the Flevorace. Twenty years ago, André Hoek was commissioned to draw up a new rigging plan. The striking botteloef on which the tack of the jib had been carried for all those years was removed and the rigging was made 1,80 m higher. High and narrow, that made height and speed, certainly in combination with a set of new centreboards. The 24,7 ton heavy ship, of which only 750 kg of ballast, could easily handle the rigging and it really sailed much higher and faster. The ship has a robust hull with wide strakes that hardly taper. Two wide flat strakes next to the keel and a narrowing strake to fill the space between the plates. With a length of 14,61 m over the stems, this Lemsteraak weighs 24,7 tons, which is no exaggeration. With the beautiful round bilges, the shipbuilders of De Hoop made a piece of craftsmanship.

The large living space and good standing height also make this barge very suitable for semi/permanent living, especially in these times with the housing market, etc.
