More about the Emka Elvstrom 31
The Emka Elvström 31 is an unknown gem in Dutch waters. The design is by Paul Elvström, well-known competitive sailor and yacht designer/builder. Elvström has also designed a number of sailing yachts, of which this is one. The hull was built in Bremen at the Emka shipyard, the interior was fitted out in the Netherlands. The Emka 31 is an excellent sailing yacht, not built to win races, but sturdily constructed to also sail safely and well in a bit more wind. However you trim it, water will not flow through the gangways. The teak deck was expertly applied and is 10 mm thick, the sails are easy to trim, and the sprayhood, cockpit tent, and sail covers have recently been renewed (2010). Currently, items such as the log, speedometer, and wind meter are being replaced. When you step aboard you see the beautiful teak deck, which continues into the cozy cockpit. Inside is the cozy salon, relatively small by current standards, but very pleasant and fully finished with wood paneling, with the galley to port and the chart table to starboard. Under the cockpit you will find a double bed. On the settee to port there is an excellent seating area that can be converted into a sleeping berth. Further forward is the wet room with toilet, and in front of that in the bow a double bed. There is ample storage space. The 4-cylinder Vetus diesel engine starts without any problems and is accessible from all sides for maintenance. Due to the placement of the propeller, right in front of the rudder, maneuvering this yacht is like driving a car. Maintenance has been carried out annually, and the boat has been stored ashore in winter. The hull below the waterline has been treated with VC Tar-2, an epoxy product, so osmosis has no chance whatsoever. After that, it has been treated annually with Antifouling VC-Offshore from International. In short, a trouble-free yacht that you must have seen if you are looking for something different from what others have.
