The Marken III we are offering you is a design by Alan Buchanan. She was built in 1972 at the Dekker yacht yard on the Diemerzeedijk in Amsterdam. The boat has been maintained with great love and dedication by the current owner, who has owned her for many years. The Sodalis can rightfully be called a modern classic and is fully ready to sail. The yawl rig, with the aft mast positioned behind the rudder, and the S-frame hull shape make this boat very steady on course under sail. This makes her suitable for large open waters. The hull is made of steel, the deck of teak, and the interior and superstructure of Bruynzeel plywood. The teak deck has been treated with the Owatrol system and needs some varnish maintenance. The wooden masts are in good condition, as are the sails, although the latter are somewhat older. Hoisting and reefing of the mainsail and mizzen is done at the mast, and the genoa has a roller reefing system. There is also a storm jib and a spinnaker. The cockpit offers enough space for a crew of 4 to 5 people. The engine room is located beneath the floor. The Volvo Penta of 36 hp was installed in 1985, and the electronics have been replaced and neatly installed. The interior is remarkably spacious, with sufficient headroom even for tall people. There is a simple galley and navigation table. In the bow there is a double cabin and a toilet area with a hanging closet opposite. On the starboard side aft is a pilot berth. The benches in the saloon can also be used as sleeping places, providing no fewer than 5 sleeping places in total. For those who appreciate the charm of classic yachts, this is an interesting vessel.
