More about the Schottel Rv171

Classic Schottel offered by the first owner, after the government of course. The current owner has invested a lot over the years, including a reconditioned DAF 575. This block is a size smaller than the original, so the ship no longer reaches its former top speed. The RV 171, ex-“Klovenier”, has a history as a professional vessel for the Dutch Engineers (1957-1972) and in 1972 at Schottel Nederland in Warmond adapted for the Dutch Marechaussee. In 1990, it came into the possession of the current owner. He has invested a lot, including a reconditioned DAF 575 engine with a velvet clutch and interior parts such as berths and a galley in the style of the ship. One of the many advantages of this ship are the wide gangways, so you can quickly walk from front to back. Furthermore, the Schottel has a number of typical features that make these ships so special. Of course, the most striking is the Schottel propulsion, this system means that the steering of the ship is done by means of a rudder propeller instead of a conventional rudder. The advantage of this is the direct response, even at low speeds, and the high efficiency of the propeller when sailing backwards, as the entire propulsion is reversed. In addition, the current owner has had a bow thruster installed so that maneuvering is a very easy affair. Furthermore, the construction of the ship itself is also remarkable. The hull and superstructure are built in 3 mm steel with welded strips, making the ship relatively light. In the back of the ship is the engine room, accessible via a large hatch in the deck. Here you will find the DAF 575 diesel engine and velvet hydraulic clutch, which is easily accessible thanks to the spacious engine room. And a spare propeller and a switch box with automatic fuses. Inside the ship, the atmosphere of yesteryear truly still prevails. The materials used for the finish are dated but high-quality, and the adjustments that the owner has had carried out, such as the galley, are made in these same materials. Furthermore, the cabin is spacious and practically furnished. To port, lengthwise, is the galley, opposite which a “train seat” has been placed that can easily be “converted” into a double bed. Further aft, to port, is the WC with an underwater toilet and a small sink, and to starboard, another fixed single bed, on top of a 400-liter diesel tank. There are certainly possibilities to adapt the interior to your taste if you do not value originality. At the front of the ship is the wheelhouse. Here, of course, are the controls for the Schottel propulsion and clutch and the other systems. There is also a bench from which one has a nice view of the surroundings. The Schottel is a special ship and it is not without reason that this shipyard has supplied professional vessels for various governments and professional organizations for years. The ships are robust and practical. This Schottel in particular also has an interesting history but now needs work to restore it to its former glory. Nevertheless, a great opportunity for an enthusiast to purchase this sturdy ship at a very competitive price. We would therefore be happy to hear from you to make an appointment for a viewing on board this special ship.
