More about the Schottel Dp46

We can offer you this beautiful Schottel for an interesting price. This vessel is nearly original and has been kept in excellent condition by the current owner. The history of this vessel is clearly visible in many details. The DP46 (formerly RP46) has lived a life as a professional vessel for the Dutch government, and no expense or effort was spared to keep the vessel in perfect condition. The current owner has also given this vessel the love it deserves. They have also made a number of small but very practical modifications, such as the two beds in the forepeak and an outside steering position. Furthermore, Schottel has a number of typical characteristics that make these vessels so special. Of course, the most striking feature is the Schottel propulsion system; this system means that the steering of the vessel is done by changing the direction of propulsion instead of using a conventional rudder. The advantage of this is the direct response, even at low speeds, and the high efficiency of the propeller when reversing, since the entire propulsion unit is turned around. Furthermore, the construction method of the vessel itself is also remarkable. The hull is built from Corten steel, which has a relatively high corrosion resistance and strength. The superstructure is made of aluminum. These materials make the vessel relatively light for fine sailing characteristics. At the rear of the vessel is the engine room, accessible via two large hatches in the deck. Here you will find the V-10 Mercedes diesel engine, the generator, and the central heating unit. The cabin truly still has the atmosphere of days gone by. The materials used for the finishing are dated but of high quality and in good condition. Furthermore, the salon is spacious and practically arranged. On the starboard side there is a “train seat” with room for 6 people. Further forward, on the port side, is an interior steering position. The salon is further characterized by plenty of natural light, and should you not place value on the originality of the vessel, there are certainly opportunities to adjust the interior to your taste. In the forecastle, a small but practical galley has been fitted into a relatively large space. This is also where the separate toilet room is located. Right in the forepeak, the current owner has built two beds, without compromising the original appearance. The Schottel is a special vessel, and it is not without reason that this shipyard has supplied professional vessels to various governments for many years. The vessels are very robust and practical. This particular Schottel has been excellently maintained and is looking for a new enthusiast. We would love to hear from you to arrange a viewing on board this special vessel.
