The Cal 39 is a design by Bill Lapworth and built in the USA by Jensen Marine. In Europe, a number of brands from the USA are now known, and the Cal 39 can best be compared to Catalina, but in a heavier quality. Nevertheless, the boat has good sailing characteristics, partly due to a good line plan and a large sail area. On deck, it is immediately noticeable that everything is robust and generously proportioned. The deck is easily accessible and in the cockpit there is enough space for the crew. The entrance to the salon is typically American eccentric. The salon has two longitudinal benches with a table in the middle. To the left is the navigation corner, and to the right a spacious kitchen with a large model stove/oven. In the foredeck there is a spacious cabin, and to the left the wet cell. Also in the aft ship there is a cabin with its own sink with mixer tap. The owner has implemented various improvements over the years. The navigation clocks have been renewed, a set of new batteries has been installed, ball-bearing Frederiksen cars for the battened mainsail. The most important improvement is the Lister 3 cylinder which was installed in 2001. This engine with only 214 operating hours is maintained by the company that also installed the engine.
