More about the Dehler 34 Top

When boarding the yacht via the gangways, the first thing you notice is that there is a sea of space for your feet: I can easily stand perpendicular to the yacht and still have room to move my shoes. The gangways run well past the cockpit and the entry to the cockpit is not too deep. The cockpit itself is fitted with teak benches that lean slightly backwards. We find a steering wheel with, just in front of it, the mainsheet traveller running across the full width of the cockpit. Six sturdy Lewmar self-tailing winches are fitted: two on the cabin roof, 2 sheet winches, and 2 at the helmsman's position. There is seating for 6 adults, with 2 people needing to sit behind the fairly large steering wheel. A small window on the port side under the cockpit bench reveals the presence of an aft cabin. On the starboard side we find the storage locker under the bench. Through an opening of 45x90cm, a substantial space is hidden that is over a metre deep and wide, and a metre and a half long. We go down the cabin steps to the salon. On the port side we find the L-shaped galley, fitted with an oven, fridge, and double sink. Behind the galley is also the access to the aft cabin, which has nicely integrated cupboard space and a lovely large double bed measuring 2 metres in length. On the starboard side of the steps we find the chart table in a longitudinal layout (with a handy foldable seat for the navigator), and above it the instrumentation of this vessel. The whole thing looks well cared for, there is enough workspace, and the height-adjustable seat fits surprisingly well. Behind the chart table is the door to the wet room, which is very spacious. The washbasin is placed in front of the toilet and has a (non-slip) standing area of 70x70 cm, only behind that is the toilet. Behind the toilet there is also a wall of cupboards to be found. Even more storage convenience can be found in the door, which is fitted with a kind of compartment system made of polyester. The designer of this wet room clearly opted for a layout in which 'the convenience' is truly a convenience. Back in the salon we look forward over 2 longitudinal benches, separated by a folding table. The backrest is removable; clamped between the bulkheads, it then protrudes slightly above the cushions of the benches so that you have 2 extra sea berths at your disposal (length: 190 cm). Here too we don't need to search for cupboards: they are truly everywhere and are really enormous thanks to the wide gangways. It turns out we can also store items under the floor, accessible via a few narrow hatches in the floor panels. An escape hatch and four windows provide sufficient daylight. The bow of the yacht is separated by a small door, has a good wide bed of more than sufficient length (200 cm), and its own escape hatch. The 'heavy stuff' is neatly distributed throughout the vessel. For instance, we find the diesel tank at the bottom of the storage locker, as they couldn't fit it any lower. The 90-litre water tank is located in the port cabin bench next to the cabin, and in the bench on the opposite side a battery is placed against the bulkhead. A second battery is hidden amidships under the bed in the aft cabin. All the heavy weights have thus been placed as low as possible, which makes for pleasant sailing. Are you curious now?
