More about the Bekebrede Miresse (Noordkaper) 38

Bekebrede Miresse (Noordkaper) 38

This Bekebrede Miresse 38 from 1999 is a classic form of the Noordkaper in the most literal sense of the word. The characteristic clipper bow, the fixed bowsprit, the round steel frame and the continuous sheer line define the traditional silhouette of this type. The design goes back to the Danish and Norwegian fishing and cargo vessels that were built to work safely under all conditions. That heritage is clearly visible on this boat.

A classic Noordkaper with clipper bow

The clipper bow here is more than a stylistic choice. The steep, forward-leaning bow cuts through the waves and keeps the deck dry in rougher weather, while the round frame and the ballast ensure calm seakeeping behavior. Combined with the centerboard and the through-hull rudder, the Miresse behaves as you would expect from a classic Noordkaper: stable, predictable and suitable for offshore use. The CE classification is therefore category B (Offshore).

Technical specification

The hull and the deck are made of steel, the hull shape is a round bilge. The ship is powered by a Perkins Sabre M65 diesel engine of 65 hp with fixed propeller, approx. 4,000 running hours and a consumption of about 4 liters per hour. The fuel capacity is 300 liters, the water tank 700 liters (stainless steel). This makes the ship suitable for longer trips and staying without a shore connection.

The dimensions are 11.60 by 3.85 meters with a variable draft of 1:40-2:20 meters and a clearance height of 16.50 meters. These dimensions bring both the Frisian lakes and the Wadden Sea, as well as more distant coastal waters, within reach.

Rigging and sails

Under the aluminum mast is a cutter rig with fixed bowsprit and manual winches. There are six Dacron sails on board: mainsail, staysail, storm staysail, jib and reacher, supplemented with a furling system for the foresail. The rigging consists of stainless steel wire. The cutter rig makes it possible to adjust the sail area steplessly to the conditions, which contributes to the safe character of the ship.

On board

The layout offers two cabins with four berths and a headroom of 1.92 meters in the saloon. Furthermore, the following are present:

  • Full galley with oven, fridge and microwave
  • Indoor shower facility, hot water and water boiler
  • Heating
  • Generator, inverter, battery charger and six batteries
  • Radar, AIS, GPS with chartplotter, autopilot, VHF radio, wind instrument and depth sounder
  • Electric anchor winch, anchor with chain and stern anchor
  • Cockpit tent, swimming ladder, life raft and self-draining cockpit

Summary

This Miresse 38 combines the appearance and sailing characteristics of a classic Noordkaper with a complete and carefully executed outfitting. The clipper bow, the cutter rig and the steel hull form one whole with the original type. For those seeking a timeless vessel with offshore qualities, this is a case to seriously consider
