Meer over de Westerly Oceanlord 41 Mk2

The Westerly Oceanlord 41 epitomises the Westerly Yachts signature blend of durability, practicality, and classic styling, and is designed for comfort, safety and long-distance passage making. "Smile" is a centre-cockpit cruising yacht renowned for her robust British build quality, constructed to Lloyd’s Hull Construction standards, and genuine offshore capability. Designed by Ed Dubois, the yacht combines excellent sailing performance with a forgiving nature, making it a natural choice for seasoned blue-water cruisers, and has a long proven history of being easily handled with just two people, whether crossing the Altantic, a circumnavigation, or just coastal cruising.

With her semi-balanced spade rudder and 3.5-ton fin keel she will tack through 60 degrees and her low-aspect coachroof gives good line of sight forward. Handling in crowded marinas is calm and precise, with plenty of acceleration and stopping power provided by the 3-bladed prop, powered by the replacement engine, a Volvo Penta D2 40 with just 10 hours on the clock. This boat comes with a spare mainsail, spare genoa, number 2 jib, trysail, staysail and storm jib. Numerous warps, lines and sheets, along with engine spares are included.

The complete specification list, photos and video walkthrough from April 2026 in this advert should provide an excellent impression of the boat, but you really should view this boat in person - once you step aboard the Oceanlord you will immediately notice the qualities that make it a trusted choice for sailors embarking on long passages, and those content with comfortable coastal cruising.

The deep and lengthy centre cockpit, with rigid windscreen provides a safe, sheltered place for captain and crew, with an excellent view around the entire boat. The cockpit has two-metre (6.6-foot) benches that can be used for sleeping or lounging, a folding cockpit table and a huge cockpit locker that can swallow sails, lines, dinghies and more. The cockpit locker also provides further access to the engine, calorifier engine fed hot water system, 240v immersion heater and the diesel space heater for cosy nights aboard.

All the halyards and running rigging are led aft to the cockpit through clutches and winches on the coachroof, meaning all controls are within easy reach of the helmsman and crew. The Autohelm ST7000 easily handles the wheel steering system. There is a full length removable bimini providing shade from the Mediterranean sun, and of course shelter from the inevitable rain showers.

Behind the cockpit is a huge flat deck, ideal for storing a large dinghy or liferaft (and perfect for those who like to fully stretch out whilst sunbathing!) There is a large stainless steel solar arch, keeping the two solar panels well out of harm's way, which combined with the Superwind 400 wind generator mean you'll always have plenty of battery power. The arch also has an outdoor shower and a davits system for lifting a dinghy.

Heading forward, the broad uncluttered decks (built with Firet coremat) mean moving around the boat is easy and secure, and there are plenty of handrails, cleats, fairleads and stanchions for securing lines and fenders. The inmast roller mainsail means safe and easy reefing at sea, and can be operated from the mast itself, or with the lines led aft for safe and easy operation from the cockpit.

On the spacious foredeck, you'll find the detachable inner forestay, which with the two running backstays, convert the sloop rig into a cutter layout. Cutters are terrific with modern furling gear, as one can roll away the genoa altogether in windy weather, leaving a nice low self-tacking staysail in place. This is well back from the bow in the event of work being needed in a gale, and more effective and easier to handle than a storm jib. The bow has a large anchor locker with an electric windlass and a bow roller.

Going below, the Oceanlord 41 offers a spacious interior layout which focuses on comfort during extended time aboard. The boat can accommodate up to six people in three separate cabins, plus two more in the saloon if needed, with two heads. The boat has ample storage space, 450 litres of water capacity and fantastic headroom throughout. There’s also loads of cupboard and shelf space, and you will really appreciate the superb Westerly build quality with acres of solid teak finishes on the cupboards and all internal woodwork.

The saloon is bright and airy, with large windows and hatches that provide natural light and ventilation and 6ft 4 headroom means no stooping for even the tallest of crew. The saloon has an u-shaped settee to port that can convert into a double berth if needed, and a two individual comfortable armchairs to starboard, with a handy drinks cabinet inbetween. The large saloon teak table with cherry inlay on the two folding leaves, can comfortably seat six (or more if you are friendly)

The galley is located to starboard, opposite the navigation station. It has a U-shaped counter with a double sink, a gimballed two-burner Plastimo Neptune 2500 stove, with oven, and grill, a large refrigerator, separate coolbox, and plenty of cupboards and drawers for storing food and utensils. It's the ideal space for cooking at sea with good bracing for the ship's cook.

In one of the galley cupboards you'll find the Victron MultiPlus Compact 12/1600/70 which provides 240v charger at 70amps for the leisure batteries, along with a 4amp charge for the starter battery. The powerful true sine wave inverter for offgrid 240v use features a peak power rating of 2800W for handling high startup surges, and also provides an uninterrupted AC power (UPS function) for when shore or generator power is disconnected - the MultiPlus is automatically activated and takes over the supply to the connected load.

The large navigation station is located to port, aft of the saloon settee. It has a full size chart table with storage for charts and navigation tools, an instrument panel, a seat and storage cupboard. There's a radar screen, VHF radio, Autohelm chartplotter and instrument repeater, Furuno NX-300 navtex, SSB shortwave radio, and car radio / cd player.

Moving back to towards the aft cabin you'll enter the walkthrough cabin with doors at each end. This provides two bunks with lee clothes providing excellent sea berths on a passage. Alternatively, fold up the top bunk and you have a huge storage area, ideal for bicycles, watersports gear and other equipment. There is plentiful storage here with cupboards alongside and a deep locker under the lower berth, where you'll also find the 400amp leisure batteries. This cabin also contains the digital controller for the diesel heater, which also has bluetooth app control and a remote control dongle.

Opposite the two berths you'll find a huge removable panel, providing unfettered access to the Volvo Penta D2 40 - a replacement of the original engine, with only 10 hours on the clock. This large opening ensures very easy servicing and inspection of the engine , fuel and propulsion systems.

Going through the next door, you'll come into the extremely generously sized aft cabin. Being one of the last 15 Oceanlords built by Westerly, this example has the updated layout, with central island double berth, featuring a 2025 memory foam mattress. The cabin also has a dressing table, a hanging locker, drawers and shelves. There are two deep lockers either side of the central bed, one of which features a safe. The aft en suite head has a marine toilet, a sink and a shower.

Returning to the middle of the boat, before you come to the forward cabin, you'll find the second head, with sea toilet, shower and sink and cupboards. Opposite is a full height hanging cupboard.

Finally, moving towards the bow, the forward cabin has a large V-shaped double berth, with central infill, a hanging locker, drawers and shelves.  A comfortable private cabin space for family or visiting crew, with the benefit of the midships head and shower next door.

Overall, for those looking for that elusive combination of performance, handling and interior volume, this is the Westerly to aspire to - her combination of classic Westerly build quality, accommodation, and offshore pedigree make her ideal for long-distance cruising, liveaboard use or confident coastal sailing.
